Honoring the life of a beloved Mother, dear family and friend

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Amasetta Hatten (known to all who  loved her as Betsy). She took her homegoing journey at home in Olympia, Washington , under the loving care of her daughter, Betty Kellogg on Sunday May 10, 2026.

She is also survived by her son, Greg Persinger and his wife Sharon; her daughter Bonnie Moore and her husband Doug; her sister Margaret Slaughter; her brother James E. Hatten and his wife Karen as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews - all who will carry her memory forward.

Betsy was born in Jodie, West Virginia on April 21, 1941. She spent many of her later years living and working in Show Low, Arizona where she built lasting friendships and touched countless lives.

To know Betsy was to know kindness. She was loving, gentle and generous in a way that made everyone feel seen and cared for.  She didn’t just say she cared- she showed it in everything she did.

One of the many ways she shared her love was through her crocheting. There are over a hundred afghans and baby blankets across the country, each one made with her hands and given freely. Betsy never charged for  something made with love.  She also lovingly crocheted hats for babies at the Show Low Hospital, quietly bringing  comfort to families that she may have never met.

She had a special gift for blending colors and creating beautiful patterns, turning simple yarn into something meaningful and lasting.  Every stitch she made carried a piece of her heart.

Betsy will be remembered not only for what she made, but for how she made people feel- loved, welcomed, and never forgotten.

To speak of Betsy’s generosity, you have to hear about the tradition she shared with her late brother, Doug.  Most Thanksgivings and Christmas’s, they would combine their money, and Doug would go to Safeway in Show low to buy the biggest cut of steak he could find.  Doug would then carefully  cut it into generous portions, and together they would share those cuts with family, friends, and anyone in need.  It was their quiet way of making sure no one went without— a simple act that meant so much to so many.

And who could forget the countless loaves of zucchini bread she lovingly baked and shared all across Show Low and Snowflake.  It seemed there was always another loaf ready to give, another small gesture that brightened someone’s day.

In the last few years, Betsy’s health declined. She had faced  life’s challenges with remarkable strength  and had overcome so much, time and again, even with the multiple surgeries over the years.  But in  2026, shortly after her  85th birthday, once again cancer reared its ugly head.  After her diagnosis Betsy chose comfort and peace surrounded by her daughter Betty and visited by neighbors, and diligent care from hospice staff and caregivers.

Betsy will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and cherish her.  She leaves behind a  space that cannot be filled, but also a lifetime of memories that will continue to bring comfort and warmth to those she touched.  We are so grateful to carry those memories with us. Betsy wanted to mention her favorite song – Take me Home - Country Roads.  You will always think of her and reminisce  of her humming  or singing a few words.   Betsy wanted you to know - that song always brought her back home to her loved ones.
