Catherine Kaye Baxter

Catherine (Kaye) Baxter passed away on November 4th, 2021, after living what she described as “a remarkable life.”  She was born on October 28th, 1936, to Constance and Alice Yurgin.  Growing up in Chattanooga, TN she learned to bake with her aunts and the art of southern hospitality. Later in childhood, she moved to Chicago where she eventually met the love of her life, Emery Baxter whom she married in 1955. Together they had 3 children. As their children grew, they traveled extensively, even living in Haiti for several years. Kaye was an avid bridge player, a deacon in the Presbyterian church, and instilled a love of travel in many of her grandchildren as she often shared trips with them.  

Kaye is preceded in death by Emery Baxter. She is survived by her children Patricia Summers Fowler and Rick Fowler, Michael Baxter and Heather Baxter, Gregory Baxter.  Her brother and his wife Nathan Leigh Yurgin and Phyliss Yurgin; their children Leigh Yurgin and Susan Yurgin Popaeko and 4 great nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren Brandi Dixon and Jayme Dixon, Ryan Summers and Jennifer Summers; Jordyn Baxter, Jacob Michael Baxter, CJ Baxter and Ashley Baxter, Michael Baxter Jr and Anna Baxter. Finally, her great grandchildren Dallas Summers, Mackenzie Summers, Alaina Mowery, Katherine Summers, Regan Baxter, Delilah Baxter, Jaden Emery Baxter and Adrien Michael Baxter. 

Services are pending, and there will be a burial at sea with her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Alzheimer's association or Leukemia Society.
