Charlene Baker Obituary

Charlene Roberta Joy Baker passed away on March 17, 2026, at the age of 82. Born June 4, 1943, in Mesa, Arizona, Charlene’s life was distinguished by resilience and a strong sense of family. She departed in Aripine, Arizona, surrounded by her daughters and loved ones, leaving a legacy marked by service and devotion.

Charlene was the daughter of Charlie and Nina Joy and grew up with her sister Charlotte Hall and brother Bob Joy. She married James Baker, her sweetheart on April 29, 1961 and were later sealed for time and all eternity on March 6, 1965. Together they raised a family that brought them much joy. She was preceded in death by her husband James, daughter Jenni, son David, son-in-law Leo Flake, brother Bob, her parents, and numerous relatives and friends. Her passing is viewed as a glorious reunion with those loved ones who preceded her.

Charlene is survived by her daughters: Christine (Leo) Flake, Sherri (Dean) Bigelow, Bekki (Barry) Pond, and Merrie (Heath) Bigelow. Her legacy continues through her 30 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren, each of whom benefited from her unwavering support and care.

Throughout her life, Charlene was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith guided her actions and sustained her through adversity. She served in many church callings, always willing to help. Charlene’s approach was direct and often delivered with wit and humor; she was known for her sassy remarks and clever observations, making her presence memorable, lively, and always helpful to others.

Charlene’s interests reflected her commitment to service and her practical nature. She enjoyed shopping, decorating, and crafts, which she used as opportunities to connect with and support her family. Her purposeful travels allowed her to stay involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She attended their milestones and offered encouragement, demonstrating steadfast support. Charlene was extremely supportive of her grandchildren’s service to the Lord and she supported them in all the ways she could during their preparation and time of service.

Charlene will be remembered for her intelligence, quick wit, and thoughtful candor. Her humor brought perspective to challenging situations, and her advice was valued for its honesty. Above all, she was generous with her time and effort, consistently seeking ways to assist those in need. Charlene always tried to look out for those less fortunate, often giving money to those on the streets and rooting for the underdog. She truly lived the scripture to “mourn with those that mourn… and comfort those that stand in need of comfort” (Mosiah 18:9), embodying compassion in her daily life. Charlene’s influence remains through the values she exemplified and in the lives she touched.
