Charles "Chuck" Soubie Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Soubie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, at the age of 74 in his hometown of Heber. Born on February 20, 1950, in Phoenix, Chuck lived a life full of love, adventure, and service to others. Chuck spent 47 years in a wheelchair but will be remembered for not being wheelchair-bound in his love and devotion to his family and his service and support of everyone around him.

Chuck grew up in a family with four siblings. His family owned a service station on 7th Avenue in Phoenix for decades. At age 9, he learned to work on car engines with his father, and that fostered his love for cars and speed. He owned and rebuilt cars, race cars, and motorcycles throughout his life. He also learned how to fly the family plane.

Chuck married Marilyn Irene Huston at 19 years old and together they had three children: John, Brent, and Laura. In 1988, Chuck met Terry Baldwin Tomlinson and were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple the following year. Chuck then added three more children to his family: Shane, Duane, and Tiffany.

Prior to being paralyzed, Chuck was a heavy equipment mechanic, and then worked security for 20 years for various trucking companies in Heber.

Outside of his work life, Chuck served in many capacities within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints with his favorite being a Scout Master and Primary Leader. He was known to pass out gum and candy and would often give children rides on his wheelchair. He and his pal Harley, a Yorkshire Terrier that rode on his feet, would often be seen around town and in stores, scoping out people to make them smile.

Chuck’s 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grand babies were the light of his life. Chuck is survived by his wife Theresa “Terry” Soubie, and children John and Brent Soubie, Laura Soubie Tomlinson, Shane and Duane Tomlinson, and Tiffany Tomlinson Western. He was preceded in death by his brother Mark Soubie, and survived by his siblings Marylou Kugler, James “Jim” Soubie, and Joseph “Jay” Soubie.

Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints building in Heber, Arizona on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with a family visitation prior at 1:00 pm. He will be interred at the Heber Cemetery in Heber, Arizona.

Chuck’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all who have offered support, love, and prayers during this difficult time. His legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
