Derek Alan Gallegos

Derek Alan Gallegos, 63, passed away on July 25, 2025, surrounded by close friends and family. Derek was born on July 20, 1962 to Gilbert and Frances Gallegos in Holbrook, AZ.

Derek was a lifelong resident and business man in the Snowflake and Holbrook community where he owned and operated the El Rancho Restaurant carrying on a legacy of over 65 years.

He lived a life defined by selflessness, patience, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved.

His happiest moments were spent at Lake Powell, surrounded by friends and family. He loved great scotch, a good card game, and a nice round of golf. He was always the first to offer help in any situation and you could always count on him to call, ‘just because’.

Through his kindness and generosity, Derek will be remembered by how he made others feel; loved and cared for.

Derek is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Frances Gallegos; aunt, Patricia-Ann Chavez; and Alisa’s daughter, Tara Gardner. He is lovingly survived by his son, Gilbert Gallegos of Snowflake, AZ; sisters Melicia Thompson of Holbrook and Marci Bischoff (Brent) of Gallup, NM; life partner Alisa Sandberg of Snowflake, AZ; Alisa's son Brandon Pawlik; and five grandchildren Jesiee, Jayce, and Jordann Gardner, and Bella and Emma Pawlik; and one great grandchild, Edith Gardner.
 

A viewing will take place on Friday, August 15th, at Silver Creek Mortuary 745 Paper Mill Rd Taylor, AZ from 4-6 pm for any who would like to attend.  

Services for Derek and Frances Gallegos, along with Patricia Ann will be held, Saturday, August 16th at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Holbrook, AZ with the Rosary beginning at 9:30 am.
