Dixie Lee Applegate Obituary

Dixie Lee Chapman Applegate passed from this life early Monday, June 16th, 2025. Our beautiful toe-head mother came into this world on May 5th, 1935 living in Bluewater, New Mexico. She was a bonus baby with 7 earthly siblings, born to Zera and Bertha Chapman. Her early childhood and teenage years were truly blessed in her beloved Bluewater. She met and married Wayne Gene Applegate in August, 1952.

Dixie’s love and passion in life was being a mother. Between June 1953 and February, 1972 she gave life to nine children: Dewayne (Kim), Verda (Jim), Clyde, Jimmy (Tracy), Victor (Tina), Kent (Liz), Bonnie, Leland, and Shirley (Greg). Over these 20 years, the family would live in Bluewater, Grants, and Reserve, NM, Saint Johns and Lakeside, AZ, with a short adventure in Townsville, Australia.  In the 1980’s Dixie moved to the Florence and Coolidge Arizona where she shared a great love for family and developed dear friendships in the area.

In addition to being a zealous mother, Dixie was most passionate about her faith in Jesus Christ and service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent her energy working at helping all her children know Jesus Christ and loving His gospel.
At her passing, Dixie is mother to 9 children, 35 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.  Dixie will be missed by all who were privileged to experience her spunky personality.

Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 4075 Buck Springs Rd. Pinetop, Arizona, on June 28. Viewing at 10:00AM funeral service at 11:00AM. Interment will be on Monday June 30th at the Bluewater, NM cemetery at 1:00PM (MDT).
