Fernando Alekay Sr. was called home to be with the Lord and loved ones on October 28th,
2023, at his residence in Whiteriver, Arizona. Fernando was born December 14th, 1970, in
Dallas, Texas to Glorinda Alekay and Maynard Steel, but was raised by Phillip Goclanney.
Fernando started his education in his earlier years at David Crocker Elementary School in
Dallas, Texas. He later moved to Whiteriver, Arizona where he attended and graduated from
Alchesay high School. He worked for the Whiteriver Elementary school as a custodian, but the
students knew him as “grandpa.” He loved to sing, worship, and praise God with the Grace of
God Choir. Fernando loved spending time with all his children and grandchildren. He devoted his
time to helping people and did his best to help the community. He was a father figure to many,
including his nieces, nephews and the fatherless. He touched so many lives and was there for
all the kids that visited his home. He relaxed by reading books and watching movies and
sitcoms. He had a collection of Stephen King novels which he cherished and continuously
added to it. He loved fishing and being outdoors. He was the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan and
always spoke of returning to Dallas to visit one day. Fernando is survived by his wife, Lucinda
Alekay; his daughter, Fernanda Alekay; his sons, Brandon, Matthew, Elijah, and Fernando
Alekay Jr.; his brothers, Philbert Goclanney, Provinco Patten, and Delmore Steel; his sisters,
Norma and Cherlyn Steel; and many aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Glorinda and Phillip Goclanney; Father Maynard Steel; sister, Philberta Goclanney; and
Grandfather Ernest Alekay. Fernando will be brought back to his home at 409 One Step
Beyond St. in Whiteriver, Arizona on November 8th, 2023, at 10 am for a one-night
Wake held in his honor, with Funeral services on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 1 pm at the East Fork
Grace of God church and will be laid to rest immediately following at Whiteriver Cemetery.
