Henry Lavern Corbin went to be with the Lord on May 7, 2022, in Snowflake, Arizona, after a long battle with illness. He was born to Benjamin Edward and Lydia Shilling Corbin on May 4, 1923, in Dill City, Oklahoma.
Henry moved to Chowchilla, California, when he was in his teens. When Pearl Harbor was bombed, he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He went to college and learned to fly. Henry was then sent overseas to the European Theatre. He earned medals and ribbons but always said he was a no glory boy. Henry and his fellow pilots just wanted to win the war and go home. He flew P-38’s and P-47’s in World War II. He was with the 367th Fighter Group (the dynamite team).
After the war, he lived in California, Oregon, and moved to Alaska before its statehood. He worked at many different jobs and trades. He could do just about everything he wanted to do. He was never boring and will be greatly missed.
Henry is survived by his wife, LaVerta Janene Corbin; Robert Lee Corbin, Henry L Corbin, II, Rodney Corbin, John Corbin, Michael Corbin, Andy Corbin, Cecila Bradford and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, too numerous to number or name.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m., May 13, 2022, at Silver Creek Mortuary in Taylor, Arizona.
