Hilda Mae Owens, 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at her home in Overgaard, AZ, with her loving and devoted husband, Kevin Owens by her side. Hilda was born in Phoenix, AZ on November 19, 1950, to John and Ann Lou Burton. One of 10 children, Hilda lovingly cared for and helped raise her siblings.
Hilda graduated from South Mountain High School in Phoenix in 1968. Hilda and Kevin were married on August 14, 1993 in Las Vegas, NV. Hilda had a fulfilling career at Honeywell, retiring in 2012, to take on her favorite role...that of "Momo"... to her beloved daughter, Kimberly and grandchildren. She loved them with all her heart and was the epitome of the "Kool-Aid" Mom, as all the kids and cousins always gathered at her house. Hilda was devoted to her family and many friends and was always there for them.
In September 2021, Hilda and Kevin moved from Phoenix to become full-time residents of Overgaard. One of "Momo’s” biggest joys was entertaining and making lasting memories with family and friends at her beautiful cabin. Hilda enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, off-roading, fast cars, hanging with friends and rooting for the ASU Sun Devils and yes, the Arizona Cardinals! Hilda was a heck of a cook as well! Hilda was an active, proud member of the Overgaard American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary. Hilda was a proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, with the native heritage fueling her spiritual connections and convictions throughout her life. Hilda met some of her best friends in the Overgaard community. Hilda never met a stranger and she made you feel like part of her family after just one meeting. To say Hilda was adored by the Overgaard community would be an understatement!
Hilda Mae is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kevin Owens; her daughter, Kimberly (Ricky) Redfield of Phoenix, AZ; 2 grandchildren: Ryan Redfield of Phoenix, AZ and Trevor (Hayly) Vidrine of Surprise, AZ; 4 brothers: Richard (Andrea) Burton of Hollister, CA; Clifford Burton of Alta Loma, CA.; Jessie Burton of Phoenix, AZ and Donald Burton of Phoenix, AZ; 4 sisters: Vicki (Jerome) Hirschi-Rokey of Scottsdale, AZ; Carol (Jack) Peifer of Glendale, AZ; Connie (Gene) Brooks of Phoenix, AZ, and Valerie Woodward of Paulden, AZ. Also surviving is her mother-in-law, Bonnie (George) Owens of Galesburg, IL; sister-in-law, Karen Cusac of East Peoria, IL; 2 brothers-in-law: Keith Owens of London Mills, IL and Aaron (Jennifer) Owens of Avon, IL. As Hilda came from such a large family, also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Hilda is pre-deceased by her parents; sister Annette Barnes; 2 sisters-in-law: Lana Burton and Tereasa Burton; 2 brothers-in-law: Neil Woodward and Steven Cusac; father-in-law Alvin Owens and former spouse, William Vidrine.
