Janet Reeves Obituary

Born in Rochester, New York December 16, 1928

Left to be with our Lord and Savior July 18, 2025

Daughter of Harold Barrett and Lillian Rappl Barrett, her childhood life in upstate New York was filled with love and knowledge. After graduating high school, she attended The State University at Brockport in New York to pursue her passion of becoming a physical education teacher where she acquired her Bachelors and Masters degrees. She believed a child's physical well being was equally as important as their academic one. There she met her future husband Vernon F. Reeves and married in 1950.

In 1967, the family packed their bags and moved to Tucson, Arizona. As the children graduated and left home, she and her husband moved to rural Marana, Arizona. After many years there, they decided to "cool off" and traveled up the mountain to the Show Low vicinity where they remained until their final days.

Janet lived her entire life as the absolute finest example of what a woman, sister, wife, mother, teacher and friend should exemplify. Words to portray her character include faithful, loyal, caring, giving, sharing, enduring, considerate, loving, unselfish, stubborn and passionate.  She seemed to always be smiling and seldom complaining. The way she led her life was an example to all of us.

Her favorite things in life were simple but always gave her great satisfaction such as cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, card and board games, watching the weather, computer games, working on her family's finances, holidays and visits with family and friends.

Janet's presence, attributes, legacy and loving memory will forever be remembered by her brother James Barrett (Judith Ruf), sister-in-law Gloria Jean Freer, her 4 children Terry (Christine) Reeves, Karen (Delbert) Lewis, Scott (Heather) Reeves, Dawn (Steve) Elliott, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all the individuals who were blessed by crossing her path.

Janet, we will forever love you and thank you for all of the kindness and knowledge you have contributed to each and every one of our lives.

The family would like to convey their sincerest appreciation to all the wonderful people at Compassus Hospice and Angel Wings Home Care who were involved in the compassionate care of Janet through her final days.

A celebration of life gathering for Janet will be determined in the future.
