Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurence "Eugene" Webb, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Eugene was born on October 13, 1940 in Snowflake, Arizona to loving parents, Maurice Eugene Webb and Luella Ballard Webb.  He passed away surrounded by family at his home in Snowflake on July 31st, 2023.

His early childhood was spent in Vernon, then when he was 12 his family moved to Snowflake where he attended school, graduating from Snowflake high in 1958. He then served a 2 1/2 year church mission to Central America, then attended Brigham Young University, where he courted and married Miss Mary Petersen.  After graduating from BYU, he taught at Bear River Jr. High School in Tremonton, Utah, before moving back to Arizona and teaching at Snowflake High School.

Eugene was a beloved member of the Snowflake community and was known for his love of music. He was a high school music teacher, Director of the Liberty Belles, and Community Choir director.  He conducted countless ward and stake choirs, participated in the Silver Creek Symphony and White Mountain Symphony Orchestra, and played trumpet in the White Mountain Big Band. He played in the Jennings Band for Taylor's 4th of July for almost 70 years and conducted the Jenning's band the past few years. He and his wife, Mary, owned and operated several businesses together: Webb’s Sewing and Music store, Webb's Adult Care Home, and Arizona Embroidery and Quilting. He was also an expert at repairing sewing machines and vacuums. Eugene was a talented musician, playing the guitar and trumpet and several other instruments.  Later in life, he developed a talent for long-arm machine quilting. He also had many other talents that he loved to share, such as backhoe operator, woodworking and carpentry, emergency plumber, auto mechanic, appliance repair, Spanish translator, dry-waller, piano mover...the list goes on and on. He was a devoted husband to Mary Petersen Webb for over 58 years and a loving father to their six children, Brent Eugene Webb (Suzie), Laura Jean Webb Shumway (Raymond), Lynnette Webb Lunt (Michael), Melanie Webb Self (Steve), Loren Tyler Webb (Sofiya) and Nathan Ballard Webb (Cherie). He was a proud grandfather to twenty-seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.  Eugene is survived by his siblings: Keith (Pam) Webb, Patricia (R.H.) Larson, and Joyce (Chris) Brimhall.  He is preceded in death by his parents Reece and Luella Webb, stepmother Cheryl Sandall Webb, brother Steven Webb (Rita), sister Janet Webb Wilkins (Dennis), Granddaughter Kaitlin Zoe Webb and Great-Grandson Hollister DiPeso Owens.

Eugene was a devoted family man and cherished every moment spent with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren. He was a man of service and was always willing to jump to the aid of anyone in need. He was a kind and gentle soul who was always there to offer a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

There will be a viewing/visitation on Friday, August 11th at 6:00 pm at the Main Street Chapel in Snowflake.  The funeral will be held on August 12th at 10:00 am in the Main Street Chapel in Snowflake, with a viewing prior at 9:00 am. Interment will immediately follow at the R.V. Mike Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake, Arizona.

Eugene's life was a symphony of service, kindness, and happiness.  We will always remember Eugene’s kind heart, gentle spirit, and his unwavering devotion to his family, community, and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and a deep appreciation of music that will resonate in the hearts of his loved ones. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
