Linda Joan Ashley

Linda Ashley, age 75, died on January 16, 2026, while in hospice care at Haven Health Lakeside.  She was born on August 1, 1950, in San Diego, California, to Dr. William Howard Barnett and Joan Annamay Daniel.  Linda graduated as a Registered Nurse from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.  She worked for a temporary agency in Napa Valley, California, for about a year after graduation, trying out other kinds of work.  Her favorite was as a wine taster at a vineyard. 

            Linda loved the ocean and sailing.  She married a sailor and boat maker.  They sailed for many years throughout the Pacific Ocean.  They would stop in different ports to work until they had enough money to continue their journey.  They made many new friends and memories.

After Linda and her husband divorced, she worked as a public health nurse in Napa Valley and Alaska, and many years for Indian Health Services in Whiteriver, Arizona.  She grew to love native peoples and respected their traditions.

Linda bought a home in a quiet neighborhood in Pinetop, Arizona.  She had many friends there and enjoyed living amongst the pine trees.  As her health declined, she made arrangements to move to Solterra Senior Living in Lakeside, Arizona.  She hired a company to do an estate sale, sold her home quickly in June 2024, then with the help of friends moved her remaining belongings into Solterra, where she lived in the assisted living section.  At Solterra she enjoyed the daily news group, exercise classes, holiday activities, and going out to lunch with friends at local restaurants.

Linda was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2017.  She enjoyed her church community and attended as often as she could until ill health made it too difficult.  Her friends give thanks to her medical teams at Solterra, Haven Health Lakeside, Summit Healthcare, and Savior Hospice Show Low. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4075 Buck Springs Rd., Pinetop, Arizona 85935.  Please enter at the rear (south side) of the building.
