Mark Flake Caldwell

November 30, 1956 ~ February 21, 2024 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Mark Caldwell Obituary

In loving memory of Mark Flake Caldwell, a devoted husband, father and friend, who unexpectedly passed away at the age of 67, surrounded with the love of his wife and children, on February 21, 2024.

Mark was born in Provo, Utah, on November 30,1956 while his parents Jim and Dixie Caldwell were attending BYU.  He is the second of nine children.  After several moves around the country, his family moved back to Snowflake when Mark was in the 5th Grade.

Mark met his sweetheart, Marsha Jo Porter, at the young age of 17 and never looked back. They graduated together from Snowflake High School in 1974 where he excelled in academics, cross country and track.

Mark and Marsha were sealed in the Manti Temple on Dec. 5th, 1974.  They made their home in Snowflake, AZ and enjoyed a beautiful life. Even in the tough times, Mark could find a way to laugh and greet any struggle with a smile.  Mark felt that Snowflake is the best place in the world to grow up and raise a family.

Mark has been part of many businesses in the community: Owner of Snowflake Pig Company, Owner of El Cupidos Mexican food restaurant, and worked for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier for many years.  Although he had many great business accomplishments, his greatest treasures in life were his wife, 5 beautiful children and 14 grandchildren.

Mark served in many capacities as a Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel and knew we have a loving Father in Heaven. He cherished the times he spent in the temple with his children and grandchildren.

Some of his most enjoyable times were spent doing yard work with Marsha, starting new projects (not always finishing), cookouts in the Caldwell Canyon, working on his cabin (his big kid fort), farming, joking, fishing, walks/hikes with good friends, eating a good meal with his family all gathered around the table, and he loved nothing more than watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and other events.

Mark loved the many good people of Snowflake and was deeply rooted in his community.  He was very unique and could get away with things no one else could.  He could make anyone’s day with his contagious laugh, big smile, and fun loving personality. Mark never knew a stranger and many consider him a best friend.

Mark will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his spirit will endure through the love and laughter he shared with those fortunate enough to call him friend or family.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Marsha; beautiful children: Monty (Kendra), Marti (Josh), Porter (Domini), Misti (Stratton), and Gunner (Lilly); and 14 grandchildren that were his world: Reagan Caldwell, Krew Caldwell, Kase Caldwell, Reese Caldwell, Cooper DeWitt, Brewer DeWitt, Mallory Caldwell, Kaisley Caldwell, Harper Caldwell, Dash Solomon, Rigley Solomon, Baden Solomon, Kobe Caldwell, and Hudson Caldwell; and his siblings: Clay Caldwell, Jill Lewis, Jackie Blair, Bret Caldwell, Julie Caldwell, Ben Caldwell, and Tom Caldwell.

He is preceded in death by Jim Caldwell (Father), Dixie Caldwell (Mother), and Janet Caldwell (Sister).
