Mike McCauley passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, at his home in Snowflake, Arizona, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born on May 13, 1939 in Overton, Texas to Garner Eugene and Mary Thornton McCauley. His family moved to Buckeye, Arizona when he was a boy. He attended Arizona State College (NAU) in Flagstaff, Arizona, where he met Ellie Furman. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints after meeting Ellie. Mike and Ellie were married in Phoenix on November 2, 1961. He graduated from Arizona State College in December, 1961. Mike was drafted into the US Army and served his country from 1962-1964. Mike and Ellie moved to Snowflake, Arizona in 1970 where they raised their four children. Mike taught at Snowflake High School from 1970-1997, when he retired. Mike was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many different capacities.
Besides his love for his family, Mike loved coaching. He was the Snowflake High School boys’ basketball coach for 5 years and the high school girls’ basketball coach for 14 years. In 1994 he was inducted into the Arizona High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
Mike is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellie; his children: Bev (Jerry) VanWinkle, Jennifer (Kert) May, Scott (Marni) McCauley, and Steve McCauley; 17 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy McCauley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Centennial Stake Center in Snowflake, Arizona. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30.
