Nedra Flake Brimhall passed away at the family home in Gilbert, Arizona, on June 3, 2024, at the age of 72 surrounded by her 6 loving children.
Nedra joins her husband Norman Terrance and is survived by her children and their spouses, Swen & JenniLyn Gunderson, John & Melissa Young, Jason & Traci Brimhall, Jacob & Sandi Ethington, Robyn Brimhall, Joseph & Julie Brimhall; 33 grandchildren; and her siblings, Russel, Ken, Dave and Dale Flake.
She is preceded in graduating from this mortal life by Traci Dawn Brimhall (wife of Joseph), Clark and Afton Flake (parents), Cleo Martineau, Dora Porter, and Leo Flake (siblings).
Nedra was born on June 24th, 1951, in Mesa, Arizona to Clark Owens and Afton Hatch Flake whom she loved and adored. Her family ranched in the Tonto Basin and Aripine where she learned to love horses and hard work. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1969. She then attended Mesa Community College where she met Norman Brimhall. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple, on November 18th, 1971. While living in Gilbert, AZ over the next ten years, Nedra welcomed six children into their home and became a full-time mother. With unfailing faith in their capabilities, she was their advocate and supporter in all they desired to do. She loved and still loves them fiercely.
Once the last child graduated, they moved to Taylor where she redesigned the grounds of their home, installing sprinklers and planting grass and plants which made it into a lovely oasis. When her children visited, she loved working and playing card games with them and her grandkids.
After Norman passed, she had the opportunity to serve in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Snowflake. She loved working there and never wanted to miss her shift. She continued remodeling the house and created the most beautiful garden space which she would plant and harvest with her daughter each year.
Her talents were extensive and varied including oil painting, playing the cello and piano, singing, sewing, calligraphy, cursive, crochet, arranging flowers, gardening, design, landscaping, drawing, quilting, horseback riding, baking bread, and listening. She was a hard worker, strong, intelligent, happy, a protector, self-less, warm, and supportive …In one word: Mother. Family was her center and being Mother was her greatest desire, calling and accomplishment. Every moment was a teaching moment; she instilled into her children’s very souls the precious teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her mothering extended to her nieces and nephews with many noting how much she taught them and loved them. Her testimony and love was shared with the same intensity and fervor with her grandchildren.
Nedra not only taught the truth but lived it with exactness. She had an unwavering testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and of His gospel. She desired to live the way the Savior taught and to be obedient in word and deed. She had His image in her countenance and drew others to Him.
A viewing is scheduled at 6-8 pm, Friday June 14th, 2024, at the Silver Creek Mortuary, 745 Papermill Rd., Taylor, AZ. Her funeral will be held at the Taylor Stake Center, 309 W. Willow Lane at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nedra’s life. Please send memories of Nedra for her family to Robyn.Brimhall@gmail.com.
