Patrick “Pat” B. Place, 80, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, at his home and
surrounded by family in Pinetop, Arizona. Pat was born in Williams, AZ in 1944, the
youngest of three children born to Joe D. Place and Gwendoline M. Place.
Pat attended McNary, AZ elementary and high schools graduating in 1962. He then enlisted
in the U.S. Navy where he actively served in the Vietnam War. After his honorable
discharge from the military in 1980, he attended college at Northern Arizona, Arizona State,
and Boise State Universities eventually becoming a Regional Business Manager with OMI
where he helped develop sophisticated programs for waste water management.
Pat had significant relationships in his life including his marriage to his high school
sweetheart, Kristen A. Place (deceased) and they resided in Pinetop for many years. Pat
continued his public service in positions including Vice Mayor of Pinetop and was on the
local Sanitary Board, while also being a member of the Masonic White River Lodge 62. He
enjoyed the Cruisers Car Club showing his car collection and winning awards at exhibitions
such as “Run to the Pines.”
A native Arizonan, Pat lived in Superior, Duncan, McNary, Pinetop, Apache Junction and
returned to Pinetop in the early 2000’s to spend his retirement years. He loved to collect
unique cars and specialty firearms. His last three years were spent in loving company with
his partner, Kriss DesRochers of Pinetop, AZ, and who was of great support through his
most difficult health issues.
Pat is survived by his sister, Gwendoline Kelley, nieces and nephew, Christina Kelley,
Tammy Miller and Tim Kelley. He is also survived by those he considered his children and
grandchildren including son Jason Thomson and his wife Ciara and their 11 children, and
daughter Jackie Porter.
An interment service will be held at Angel’s Rest Columbarium located at St. Mary’s of the
Angels Catholic Church in Pinetop, AZ on Saturday, January 25 at 10am followed by a
reception hosted by the Madonna Guild.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to Catholic Charities in Lakeside,
Arizona.
