No time on earth is long enough to share with those we love or to prepare our hearts for
good-bye....
Richard Paul Thomas Campbell (aka Rich or Papa) left us to join his ancestors, his friends
and his pets that he loved so much. We’ll mark our calendars each year on May 4th (2023)
at 6:30PM to remember him.
Rich grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio and stayed close to his high school friends, nieces
(especially Beth Hopkins Mulhearn) and nephews. He called Mesa, Arizona, home for 38
years, then moved to Show Low, Arizona in 2013. He became a rancher in his retirement
years, and peacefully passed at our home a year and a half after suffering a stroke. Scott,
Meghan and Vicki were at his side to help him enter the next chapter of his life. Rich and
Vicki (Oplinger) were married in Las Vegas on Halloween of 1970. Rich was a U.S. Marine,
and was recently honored by a Hospice Chaplain with a “Semper Fidelis” certificate for his
military service in the Vietnam War.
His working career was managing injection mold/plastics in Tempe, Arizona. His hobbies
included 55 Chevys and woodworking with his brother, Jim. He was also an avid reader.
Rich was a member of the Tempe Optimist Club, and also a master gardener.
Rich was born on February 27, 1949, to the late George and Alice Marie (Wilsterman)
Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Campbell (Oplinger) of Show Low, Arizona, his
brother, Bob Campbell (Kaye), his brother-in-law, Mark Oplinger (Janie), his sisters-in-laws,
Connie Oplinger, Barbara Campbell, and Susan Soto. Rich leaves his children: Scott Patrick
Campbell (Ashley), Meghan Elizabeth Campbell and Shannon Furman Stephens (John).
His beloved grandchildren, Kaelynn Jackson, Bryce Campbell (Olivia Handlon), Kristopher
Campbell, Zoee Campbell, Kaleb Campbell, Nathan Campbell, and Garrett Campbell. Great
Grandchildren: Tyler Jackson, Olive Jackson, Elijah Campbell, Oliver Campbell.
Previously departed are his brother, James (Jim) Campbell, his sister, Patricia Hopkins
(Jerry), his brother-in-law, David Oplinger, his sister-in-law, Mary Gale, and his
grandson, Tyler Scott Campbell. I’m sure they were all there with open arms to greet him.
Our family and friends will have a “Celebration of Life” here in the White Mountains of
Arizona this summer (date has not been determined).
