Robert Justus Obituary

Robert Charles Justus, known affectionately as Bob, passed away at his home in Snowflake, Arizona, on October 3, 2024. He was 81 years old. Born on July 26, 1943, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, to Robert (22) and Bessie Grumbles (17), Bob grew up in Arizona's Verde Valley alongside his sister Brenda Joyce. It was at Mingus High School in Jerome, Arizona, where he met Maureen Louise Derrick, the love of his life. They married on August 18, 1962, in Clarkdale, Arizona, and went on to have three sons: Robert James (1963), Gary Joseph (1967) who died as an infant, and Joseph Derek (1968). In the summer of 1962, Bob began what would become a 48-year career at Southwest Forest Industries Papermill in Snowflake, Arizona. Starting as a general laborer in stock prep, he worked his way up to senior management. In reflection with people who worked with Bob, whether he was an hourly employee, Union President, or Production Manager, the consistent message was that he was “a good and fair man”. He retired in 2010 at the age of 67. Bob and Maureen were blessed with five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren: • Robert James married Liesl Wendt in 1992, and they had two children: Sean Michael and Bria Maureen. Sean married Claire Smith in 2020. Bria married Joe'll McCool in 2022 and they have two children, Shiloh and Jul'lianna. • Joseph Derek married Corina Opsahl in 1996. They have 3 children. Isaiah Gary, Gabrielle Louise, and Noah Joseph Justus. Bob and Maureen shared a deep love for the outdoors, spending their lives hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. They passed this passion on to their children and grandchildren and enjoyed many adventures with the Derrick family. A man of integrity and a pillar of strength to his family, Bob's presence was quietly powerful. Bob will be desperately missed and remembered with immense gratitude for the beautiful life he built with Maureen and the strong foundation he laid for his family to thrive. His legacy of love, hard work, and quiet strength will continue to inspire all who knew him.
