Roy Joe White passed away on February 13, 2022, in Show Low Hospital after a very lengthy illness. He was born in Casa Grande, Arizona, on January 25, 1952, to Francis Elizabeth and Raymond White. His family moved to Holbrook in 1961 when his father was part of the original crew that fired up unit one at Cholla Power Plant. Roy attended school and graduated from Holbrook High School in May of 1970. He was drafted into the United State Army in April of 1972 and served proudly until April of 1974.
Upon coming home from the service, he went to work for Southern Union Gas Company and in 1975 met the love of his life. Roy and Teri were married August 18th, 1979, at the First Baptist Church in Holbrook and in 1981 Roy started his career as an appraiser for the Navajo County Assessor’s Office. In November of 1982 they were blessed with their first son, Casey, followed by a son, Kelly, in 1987 and a daughter, Cristie, in 1989.
Roy worked for Navajo County over 30 years when he retired in July of 2009. He served as a school board member of Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2010 and served as their board president in 2006-2007. His passions in life were his wife and children and then his 4 beautiful grandchildren. He loved being a dad and granddad more than anything in the world. He also loved drag racing, hunting, and building remote control airplanes. He always had projects going!
He is survived by his wife, Teri, Casey White (Kristin), Kelly White, and Cristie Petersen (Aaron), four grandchildren, Wiley, Kylan, Grayson, and Ally, sisters, MaryAnn Somdahl (Carl) and Francis, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Ray White. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Holbrook on Saturday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. Memorials are preferred to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Fund.
