Sharon Mary Millett Owen passed away on May 22nd, 2024, in Taylor, Arizona. When she passed, she was surrounded by her family, her beloved little dog Honey was resting by her side, the sun was starting to set, which was her favorite time of day, and her favorite Doris Day song, "Secret Love," from the film "Calamity Jane," which came out when she was just thirteen, was playing on the television in her room.
She was born on February 26th, 1940, to Earl and Dorothy Millett. She lived all her life in Arizona, and her hometowns were Mesa, where she lived her happiest years in her youth, and Taylor, where she raised her family. She had two great callings in life: first, as the devoted and loving only parent to her four children; and second, as the teacher known as "Mrs. O" who taught generations of children how to read. She attended both BYU and ASU, and lived most of her life in the house where she raised her own kids and tutored countless more. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and taught many of her former students as an instructor in the youth program. She retired from teaching due to health reasons in 1995, and spent the years since enjoying becoming a grandmother and then a great-grandmother, teaching in her church callings, and enjoying spending time in her front yard and garden. In 2021, she was honored with an induction into the Taylor Town Hall of Fame for her many contributions to the youth of the community.
Sharon was preceded in death by her loving parents, Earl and Dorothy Millett, and her brothers Clair and Val Millett. She is survived by her sister, Jan K. Yant, her children James (Helen) Owen, Dorothy (Marty) Palmer, Jeremy (Churstan) Owen, Jason (Tiffany) Owen, many grandchildren, an increasing number of great-grandchildren, her Best Friend in the World, Bobbye Maxwell, and her Loving Dog Honey.
Services for her friends, family, and students to come together to celebrate a wonderful life will be held Friday, May 31st at 3:00 pm at the Taylor (Silver Creek) Stake Center at 309 W. Willow Lane in Taylor, Arizona, with the viewing before the funeral at 2:00 pm.
