Viola Paschal Obituary

Viola R. Paschal, 91, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, in Snowflake, Arizona, with family by her side.  She is survived and was deeply loved by her children, Patricia Shenton (John), Russell Colbath (Susan), Billy Paschal (Adicia), and Lisa Haight (John), 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Other surviving family members include her sister, Jody Pearman (Ed, deceased), and brothers, Larry Rencher (Deanna) and Joe Rencher (Lorraine).  Siblings who predeceased Viola are Eula Koury (George), Jay Rencher (Louise), Tanny Hensley (Allen), Nelda Thomas (B.K.), and Lanette Bienz (Wally).

Born on July 6, 1932, to her beloved parents, Ben and Minnie Rencher, Viola graduated as class valedictorian from Snowflake High School in 1950 and then attended Brigham Young University.  She married Russell Colbath, Sr., in 1954.  Russell, Sr., passed away in 1965 when their children, Patti and Russ, were 10 and 8.  Viola subsequently married Bill Paschal (deceased) and together they raised Billy and Lisa.  Viola’s grandchildren include (Patti’s children) Tonya Zemke, Steven Portenier, (Russ’s children) Paige Vaughan, Parker Colbath, (Billy’s children) Samuel Paschal, Elizabeth Paschal, and (Lisa’s children) Brianna Kobs, Allison Evensen, Johnny Schaeffer, Lauren McMahon, Haley Schaeffer, and Zach Schaeffer.

Viola was a beautiful reflection of her upbringing in a family where the parents taught honesty, respect, and kindness to their children and also modeled both hard work and how to have fun.  She would laughingly tell stories about all the good times she had growing up with her brothers and sisters on the Snowflake farm, whether they were doing chores or playing games.  As a child, Viola loved school.  She continued to learn and read her entire life.  She also loved listening to music, watching sports, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and bird-watching.  Most of all, Viola loved babies and her happiness around them was a joy for her family to watch.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Holbrook, Arizona on February 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visiting and lunch to follow.  A graveside ceremony will be held at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor, Arizona at 3:00 p.m.  Silver Creek Mortuary is handling the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following philanthropies sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Perpetual Education Fund and/or Humanitarian Aid Fund.
